Don’t miss this unique opportunity to extend your stay in Ireland for a post-conference tour on Saturday 6th September, from 9am to 5pm.
You can choose between the following two itineraries:
1. University College of Cork & Jameson distillery *
The participants will be bused to the University College of Cork campus for a 10.00 am start. Originally named 'Queen's University Cork' it has provided outstanding education to the southern province of Ireland and continues to do so. The campus house's many historical documents and artefacts including a collection of Ogham stones. Professor Cesare Galli will give a plenary lecture on ART in wildlife conservation, with particular reference to the Northern White Rhinocerous project. A tour of the campus is being arranged to follow the lecture.
The bus will then take the tour the 10 minute journey to the Marina Market which houses a selection of restaurants and bistros with also a range of artisan food stalls and local artist outlets. An hour will be allotted for the participants to enjoy lunch and a shopping opportunity.
The bus will then take the tour to Midleton, 25mins away for an arranged tour and tasting around the old distillery in the town. The duration of the Midleton Distillery Experience is approximately 1hr 15min.
The bus will return the tour to the Clayton Hotel to arrive before 4.00pm
2. The second option will particularly suit anyone with an interest in bloodstock.
There will be a visit to the renowned Coolmore racing stables and stallion yard in Fethard , Co. Tipperary. We will also visit the advanced facilities of the Fethard Equine Veterinary hospital nearby.
Lunch will be available in the scenic town of Cashel, ancient seat of the High Kings and home to the most impressive collection of medieval buildings in Ireland.
After an opportunity to discover the sights of Cashel in the afternoon, bus will return to Cork through the scenic route of the Golden Vale, home of the Irish dairy industry.
* The tour to the University College of Cork has replaced the visit to the Fota Wildlife Park.
